Painting Workshops by Brian Simmons

April 22nd, 2009

This last weekend I took a two day workshop with Brian Simmons in Victoria , BC. I have not been this inspired in ages. Brian has honed a two day workshop
into a successful, fun, hard working , revelatory experience. When i left Victoria on the ferry and drove home I was mixing the color of every object I saw.
If you are fortunate enough to be able to take this workshop do so.
You can find out more about Brian by going to his site on FAA and following his links.

I looked at this image all weekend, this picture does not do it justice, sorry Brian. The painting is much more subdued and rich.

Thanks Brian.

New Paths

New Paths

I am putting together a body of work for an upcoming show. I really want the work to be consistent
and polished. But, I find myself shooting photos of my palette , the paint spills on the studio floor, scrap papers , the garbage, almost anything that I think
I can put on the computer and play around with. The image posted here is an example. I know it is not a professional job , but I forgive myself as a beginner ,
and it is fun. Too much fun in fact... because I find I am leaving the real paintings on the easel unfinished. I have become addicted.
Last week I felt badly about this new addiction and that fact that I had nothing concrete for the upcoming show. I felt I was not doing my job.
This week I have rationalized myself beyond that and now I am hooked.
I turn 70 in a month or so and being able to produce work on the computer might be a good bet for when I grow up. I n the mean time
I am trying to do both.

Accepting the Exceptional -This piece was inspired by sunlight shining on my studio floor. I took about 6 photos of it . This is the best result so far I think.
